The Signatures Has Been Appended For The Future of Boron
The Minister of Energy and Natural Resources Berat Albayrak gave the good news at ‘The Promotion of the New Boron Strategy and The Technology Transfer Agreement Signing Ceremony’, that a protocol will be signed with two companies and a boron carbide facility will be established in Balıkesir.
HI-TECH BORON CARBIDE PRODUCTION FACILITY IN BALIKESIR
World Boron Leader Eti Maden, with its future vision, will continue contributing to the Turkish and world economy by getting the most valuable underground resource of Torkey into the foreign market.
Berat Albayrak, who made significant statements at the signing ceremony, asserted that ‘a cooperation protocol will be signed between Eti Maden and Chinese Dalian Jinma, one of the world’s biggest companies in the field of boron technologies. With this protocol we will establish a hi-tech boron carbide production facility in Balıkesir. With this facility, we will bring the technology to produce high added-value boron based products into our country. Boron carbide is a technology that will increase the value of mined boron two thousand times. Starting from the price of 200 dollars per ton as the raw material,when it turns into a hi-tech product an added-value of up to 400 thousand dollars is generated.’
THE WORLD’S HIGHEST QUALITY RAW MATERIAL PRODUCT: COLEMANITE BORON
Also promoting the boron ore which is mined in Turkey at the signing ceremony, The Minister of Energy and Natural Resources Berat Albayrak stated that:’On the left, the highest quality raw material product, what we call colemanite boron, average world market value is about 200 dollars. When we process and refine this and make it into dust that we call boric acid, it becomes a product that has a price of about 600 dollars per ton in the world market. The next process is, on the right table, boron carbide ingot, which is the hardest and the toughest element in the world after diamond. When the boric acid transforms into boron carbide, it becomes the product that we call manifacture of which a ton is up to 40 thousand dollars in the industry with their dust states. When we process this using the new technologies and make it into the plate shaped product, here are armor plates, the curved and pitched ones especially in helicopter armors, cylinder tubes and thin ones in nuclear power plant neutron holders and cooling, transforming it into what we call armor and vest which has the most durable endurance but incredibly light weight and is the most strategic product in our defense industry, thus we achive two things. In other words, an added-value that starting from 200 dollars per ton as raw material, increasing to 400 thousand dollars when it becomes a hi-tech product is formed. Boron carbide has a massive market size of ten thousands of tons per year and is one of the most prominent of the fastest growing markets every year.
BORON CARBIDE CONTRIBUTION TO THE DEFENSE INDUSTRY
About burun carbide which is amongst Turkey’s new export exploits, he stated that ‘it will be an examplary and pioneering sector in the world, being referred with Turkey around the world with its quality. Boron carbide has a critical importance especially for the sake of improving our defense industry and incresing its locality ratio. Boron carbide will contribute to the empowerment of our defense industry with its low density and its resistance to high temperature. We will take an important step also in terms of our defense industry with the production of boron carbide in Turkey, which is used especially in tactical vehicles, helicopters, airplanes, light armored vehicles and personnel protecting vests.’
2.2 MILLION SALES IN 2017
Albayrak, who mentioned that Eti Maden, which assured its World Boron Leadership with a sales figure of 2.2 millions, will also continue its researchs on ferro boron and boron nitride in itshi-tech facilities, told that ferro boron will provide the capacity to produce high quality magnetic material and high durability steel.

Berat Albayrak, The Minister of Energy and Natural Resources, who stated that they aim to increase the boron reserves from %73 up to %80, said that ‘Eti Maden single-handedly dominated the 57 percent of the global market by selling 2.2 million tons. For 16 years, whatever we did, we did all for our nation. We did with believing in our youth. This is how we look out for the boron ore which has been in our nation’s radar for years. While we are taking this historical step, boron is either never mentioned in the declerations of the ones who make fake promises to Turkey or or used in two cliche sentences. We believe that our nation is aware of who is protecting their values, who is developing projects and strategies for the objective of ‘Great and Powerful Turkey’. Our path is the path of technology. Our way is the way of competition with the world on the most advanced technologies. We present and commend these objectives, these prjects to our nation. We believe they will protect them in the best way.’
At the ceremony, ‘Technology Transfer Agreement’ was signed by Serkan Keleşer, Director General and the Chairman of the Executive Board of Eti Maden, and Wang Yanhe, Senior Executive of Dalian Jinma.
